And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap
if we do not lose hear. Galatians 6:9
Years ago when we planted our first church in 1986 Tweed Heads NSW
Australia, this verse I quoted more than any other. I stood on God’s word
spoken by Paul. You see this is the greatest single, stand alone scripture
for defeating discouragement. One of the greatest problems among church
members, ministers and missionaries alike is discouragement.
Just this year someone in our 6am prayer meeting spoke out that this is our
‘Due’ season to reap! Something just leapt up in my spirit, and Galatians
6:9 came to mind and I spoke it out. ‘Yes 2019 is our due season to reap a
Harvest of Souls. Oh my mind and my spirit went wild with excitement.
Over the years we have reaped, we have seen God’s faithfulness. However, I
believe that Galatians 6:9 is ‘Now’ for us as Spirit Life Church to ‘Arise
and Shine’ like never before, in reaping the seeds that have been sown. Not
only for us, but you also as you read this, to release your faith and
confession in the seeds you have sown over the years. 2019 will be a year
of ‘Harvest’.
The word ‘weary’ here means ‘flagging, fainting, despondent, discouraged!
And this word added to ‘and let us not.....’Don’t be weary. Don’t be
discouraged. don't be despondent. ‘Don't give up -- look up and live!’
That is - when things get difficult - when it seems like there’s no fruit
for all your labour in the Lords work. “don’t give up - but look up to God
and live up to His calling.
Noah 120yrs building the Ark, Joseph 13yrs in prison, Abraham 25yrs before
Isaac was born. We sow the seeds of the gospel, but it may take a while for
them to germinate. William Carey was seven yrs in India before seeing his
first convert, Adobiran Judson was 7yrs in Burma before he saw his first
conversion. Robert Morrison toiled for 7yrs in China, before his first
convert. Robert Moffat waited 7 yrs in the mission field of Africa before
he saw any evidence of the moving of the Holy Spirit.
It may take 7 - 70yrs - but there’s power in the gospel seed and our job is
to plant it. So don’t lose heart. ‘He” who continually goes forth weeping,
bearing seed for sowing, shall doubt less come again with rejoicing,
bringing his sheaves with him Psalms 126:6
Seeds can remain dormant for years until the conditions are right for
growth. For example, while excavating the palace of Herod the Great,
archaeologists at Masada found seeds that had hibernated for 2000 yrs.
In 2005, one of the seeds - a Judean date palm - was planted and it
germinated. God in His creative genius put life and potential into such a
small seed.
Please read again Galatians 6:9 ‘What have you given up on?’ We will reap
in God’s season, His time if we do not lose hear, or faint.
