The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.

1 Corinthians 12:1

God’s gifts of the Spirit are essential to the church today, without a doubt. Jesus and the first apostles used the gifts like a bell, calling men to their message and confirming that God was truly the one speaking through them. As soon as we move away from the Holy Spirit, we move into entertainment.

I want to pursue the Holy Spirit everyday. The Holy Spirit is of such a nature - that, the more we know Him, the more we actually do not know. It is one thing to know about Him, it is another to know Him by personal acquaintance. We all know the Queen of England but few know her by personal acquaintance.

Why do we need Spiritual Gifts?

For instance, my hands cannot play a violin, or a piano. They are ungifted.

After a 5 year apprenticeship as a mechanic, my hands became gifted in all aspects of the motor industry. Ungifted men can do religious work. Trying to do what only the Holy Ghost can do.

Paul gives very good teaching on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, so that we do not remain ignorant.

1 Corinthians 12:31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

Paul never meant to say that they were to choose between love and the gifts of the Spirit. But the Gifts were to work out of love. 1 Corinthians 13:1-2

Then he said ‘In case you want to know what gift I think is the most important.’

1 Corinthians 14:1-5 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

He did not mean to foretell events, but verse 3 Edification, exhortation and comfort. You, an ordinary person have an unusual ability to speak with conviction and inspiration that is not human but divine.

I want to look at the Three D’s of how to be filled with the Holy Spirit and Power!

1. Desire - Firstly you must desire to be filled. Let it be an all absorbing drive in your life.

2. Determination - Be determined to be filled with God’s power. Acts 1:8

3. Desperation - In desperation you throw yourself into the arms of God.

I am talking now about the filling, the fullness, and the anointing of the Holy Ghost. I like the word anointing better than baptism, because when they poured oil on a man’s head it was not gradual.

Acts 4:8 Then Peter filled with the Holy Spirit

Acts 6: 3-8 Men full of the Holy Spirit, Full of Faith, Full of Power, Full of Wisdom. Full, Full, Full

Flowing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, is not only a blessing to us but also to others. ‘You are carrying someone else’s miracle’ Don’t let it stay inside of you.

Have a blessed week.
