Hearing the Leading of God in our Daily Walk
Romans 8:14 says “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.”
Being adopted into Gods family is such an awesome privilege, and the main part of us; which is our spirit-person, was recreated at that moment into a being that had never existed before [2 Cor 5:17]. God has prepared such a fantastic future for His children that will never end.
But we are not only spirit, we a 3 part, having a soul & for now live in this physical body. Those parts were not recreated in this process. Now as children of God we need to work on those parts, with the help of the Holy Spirit. This means that we need to be listening for God’s leading in our personal life. We must be willing to be teachable & following His leading. Being a “hearer” & then a “doer” of His word as James says in his book 1:22 as how we work out our salvation over our lifetime to finish our earthly race well.
Jesus taught us this – “Not my will, BUT Your will be done.” Your Will must surrender to God and when there is a clash of wills, we must submit our way for His way & obey, because His ways are so much higher than ours. He is a good Father knowing what is best for us, ultimately. This is dying to “self” which is not easy but do-able with the help of God.
So, from here until eternity we are to imitate God [Eph5:1] by changing the way we think (soul) & therefore act (body) as Paul commands us in Rom 12:2 which is called “renewing our mind”. This won’t happen overnight, but will happen by diligent, day by day purposeful consideration & by following the Holy Spirits leading daily.
2 ways we are lead:
1. By His Word - the Bible - which is a spiritual book that feeds & talks to our spirit. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb 4:12. And is certain & clear to follow, the Apostle Peter called it the “more sure word” in 2Pet 1:19. This is the main way to hear His leading.
2. By His Spirit– The 3rd person in the Godhead, that we received in full measure when we were baptised by Jesus, being indwelt by His Spirit - the Spirit of Truth - we call The Holy Spirit. He will guide us into all truth [John 16:13]. He is our ever-present help, comforter, guide & so much more. He prays through us when we speak in tongues & He talks to our spirit in leading us also. He is God, with all power & ability as God the Father.
At Spirit Life we focus on working with Him in all parts of our personal & church walk. We must develop our inner-ears to know & follow His leading. Our goal is to have a continuous internal dialogue going on with Him every day. So, we can be sure of His word, He will speak to us things that we can back up with His written word. Be careful, there are many voices out there today, both internally & externally – which ones will we follow?
We can develop our ears to hear the Holy Spirits voice through practice [1Cor14:1-2] and we are no longer under the old testament law [Gal5:18] but are to follow the law of love [Jn13:34-35] – loving God & then loving others with all our heart, strength & everything we have, fervently loving. This is our ultimate goal& focus because God is love & if we don’t show love, then He says He is not in us. Jesus said, “you will know them by their love”. The first fruit of the spirit is LOVE.
Make a fresh determination to be aware of our love levels in our life daily. The Holy Spirit will help us if we ask Him to. Pray about it. Declare daily over yourself: “I have great love within me for God & all people & just can’t help showing it.”
It won’t be long & you will recognise your fruit growing! To God be the glory for the great things He has done!
