Moving Forward with God
At the beginning of January 2017 Pastor Stuart shared a message from Philippians 3:12-15. In verse 13 it states :- Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead. This became the theme for Spirit Life Church for the year.
On Sunday 26th November Pastor Stuart spoke on moving from ‘Hope to Knowing’. Hebrews 6:19 says that ’hope is an anchor to your soul’, an anchor holds something stable in an unstable medium. Hope will hold us in our present position, but Faith (knowing) will move us forward into the next season of God. Hebrews 11:1 ’Faith is the substance of things hoped for.
Moving form ’Hope to Know’, I believe is a word for the church at this time. We can stay in Hope nothing will change, or we can link Hope to the future through faith and step into 2018 with greater expectation and confidence.
In Exodus 33:7-11 We see 3 types of people verse 7 ’Moses took his tent and pitched it far from the camp’ Why? In Exodus 24:9-18 God called Moses to the top of Mt Sinai for 40 days. There God gave him the pattern for the Tabernacle - Gods meeting place with Israel. When Moses came down from the Mount, Israel was worshiping the golden calf - ‘Apis’ whom the Egyptians worship. Israel went back to what God had delivered them from. Moses had a whole new way of living for Israel written by God Himself. In Moses’ mind was the Tabernacle - a tent, where God could dwell. Until the Tabernacle was built - Moses’ tent became the ‘tent of meeting’ for Israel.
Today if we don’t pursue Gods’ purposes for our lives we will always drift back to that which God has delivered us from.
The three different groups of people are:-
1. Verse 8 Those Independent from God
Verse 8 Whenever Moses went out there, the people would stand at the door of their tents and watch Moses until he entered it.
Some people today in the Christian life want to keep God at a distance. i.e. They have just enough of God but doesn’t want Him involved in their lives. ‘Don’t call me - I’ll call you’ when needed. They don’t want to change. When Adam and Eve sinned they went from being dependent<span lang="en-AU" style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 107%; font-family: 'QuickType Condensed'; mso-default-font-family: 'QuickType Condensed'; mso-ascii-font-family: 'QuickType Condensed'; mso-latin-font-family: 'QuickType Condensed'; mso-greek-font-family: Verdana; mso-cyrillic-font-family: Verdana; mso-armenian-font-family: Verdana; mso-hebrew-font-family: Verdana; mso-arabic-font-family: Arial; mso-devanagari-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-bengali-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-gurmukhi-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-oriya-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-tamil-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-telugu-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-kannada-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-malayalam-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-thai-font-family: Verdana; mso-lao-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-georgian-font-family: '\@Arial Unicode MS'; mso-hangul-font-family: '\@Arial Uni
