My/Our Dependence on the Holy Spirit
Last Sunday, Pastor Stuart ministered on the importance of his close walk
with the Holy Spirit & dependence on Him every day. Looking back over
his past journals that he keeps, God’s hand directing his walk & path
of life was very evident. He testified of his daily reliance on the Holy
Spirit, which continues to grow day by day.
We all need to be more reliant on the Holy Spirit in our daily lives and in
every way if we are to be Spirit led sons and daughters of God.
Romans 8:14 says “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are
sons of God.”
God desires to be our complete source of everything in our life, but it’s
our role to yield ourselves to Him & allow Him to lead us as the Great
Shepherd. Without the empowerment, leading & union with the Holy
Spirit, what can we do?
Not much just with the arm of the flesh.
We are God’s people & should be focused on walking in the spirit
instead of walking in the flesh, but it is not going to happen without
God’s great gift of the Holy Spirit. That’s why Jesus said it was so
important that He leave earth so that The Father could send the Holy
Spirit, who would indwell within us making all things now possible. This is
the Great Mystery of the Ages, made possible by Jesus, that man could
become one with God – “Abide in Me and I in you” John 15:4
How much do we rely upon the Holy Spirit each day?
Do we see Him as a person?
He is the person of the Holy Spirit who we can talk to all day, every day
about everything….All that we need is in Him, in God, in Christ, & able
to be supplied to the branches while they remain connected to the vine.
Whether that be healing, provision, overcoming breakthrough power,
deliverance, comfort, peace, joy, direction or whatever the need is; it’s
in God, in Christ (the Anointed One & His Anointing). He is our all
sufficient God, and nothing is too big or too small for Him. In today's
world, we have been drawn away from the promises of God through
self-reliance & self-sufficiency, when we should be God-reliant &
God-centred. Often when faced with a situation, we think, “If I could……”
but instead we should ask the Holy Spirit & wait for His answer &
leading. Jesus promised that His sheep would know His voice [Jn10:27]
“ Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in
you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us
a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Tim1:6-7
Stir up our gift through prayer & declaring the Word of God. We have a
prayer language that allows The Holy Spirit to pray through us to God the
Father which builds up our strength of faith.
This is the perfect prayer. Prayer is the engine room that powers the life
of the spirit-led believer.
Our great example, Jesus, only started His public ministry once He received
the Holy Spirit & then built His strength up through prayer &
fasting. The Bible tells that Jesus often woke up early to go and pray to
get the strength for His day. Jesus had a total dependence on the Holy
Spirit, so shouldn’t we also?
In Luke 1:28~ when the angel announced to Mary that she was chosen to birth
the Messiah; Jesus into the world, she asked in v34. “How can this be?”
When faced with a situation or challenge, we often want to analyse it and
try to reason in our logic to come up with a solution in our limited
thinking. But the angel gave Mary the answer as to how & it should be
our answer today for everything. Read verse 35 “And the angel answered and
said to her, “The Holy Spirit..”
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God,
which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through
Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:6-7
Whilst it can be a little scary at times to pass control of your life over
the Holy Spirit, He is ever faithful & always with us. Over time we
will see His hand at work & His timing is always perfect.
Faith & trust are built in steps, allow God’s great Spirit of Truth to
be our daily help. He is a good, good God indeed! Luke 1:37-38 With God
nothing is impossible, and that Mary agreed with the answer and aligned
with God’s way which allows Him access to work. So what are we worried
about? Leave it to Him to sort out.
