Our Dependence & Yielding to the Holy Spirit
Last Sunday, Pastor Stuart continued to minister on the position that we
must take in order to allow the Holy Spirit of God to operate in our life.
That position is one that is humbled and relying on the Holy Spirit to have
His way, looking for His leading & guidance every day.
Isaiah 1:19 says “If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good
of the land.”
God desires to be like our Great Shepherd as Psalm 21 so lovingly portrays,
but His sheep must be willing to surrender to His leading and trust that He
knows best and follow Him. Pastor Stuart & Colleen shared on their next
mission trip to Arkansas and how they have continually submitted to Gods
leading all the way. This is not their idea but Gods plan and they will go
with no perceived conceived ideas of what will happen but go only armed
with the Holy Spirit as willing vessels to be poured out for His purpose.
Its interested to recognise that “Submission” is made up of 2 words, “sub”
– to come in below something & “mission” – plan &
purpose…therefore, “when I am in submission to God, my plans will line up
under His plans so that I flow with His mission & not my own ideas.”
The Galatians, after having launched their Christian experience by faith,
seem content to leave their voyage of faith & chart a new course based
on works – a course the Apostle Paul finds disturbing. His letter to the
Galatians is a vigorous attack against the gospel of works & a defense
of the gospel of faith.
In Galatians 3:1 he says “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you” or
who has been in your ear?
Our salvation & blessings come from God based on faith & not law.
Freedom in Christ means freedom to produce the fruits of the righteousness
through a Spirit-led life-style. Read Galatians 5:16-26 the key to living a
sin-free life for Jesus is the live yielded to the Holy Spirit &
walking in the Spirit which will overcome the works of our flesh.
How do I yield to the Holy Spirit? By learning to hear His voice, then act
on it promptly. Therefore, walking in the Spirit means we must train
ourselves to recognise the Spirits voice & then to obey His initial
prompting immediately.
Hindsight will show you that it was for the best and it was the Holy
Spirits voice that prompted us. Their can be several voices that we will
hear on our inside & knowing which voice we are hearing is crucial.
That voice can be either;
1. Our logical thinking-self
2. Our enemy or
3. The Holy Spirit.
Proverbs 3:5-6 gives us great wisdom –
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own
understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your
paths.”
We don’t know everything that comes our way, but the Holy Spirit does. He
will gently lead us along His purpose of developing us into mature sons
& daughters of God….so follow those initial thoughts. His ways are
usually the first thoughts that we get. He does not condemn us but He will
say things like “Don’t do that.” Or “Don’t say that.” Or “Go that way..”
etc
There is a rest that remains for the people of God as Hebrews 4 tells
us…taking Gods word & mixing it with faith in Him, not a self-reliant
faith.
We were never meant to rely on ourselves but to totally rely upon God for
all things that you can name…. accessing all things in Christ through the
power of the Holy Spirit that lives within us. This is the master plan that
God has, which He kept a great mystery until the appointed time. So make a
renewed commitment again today - don’t look to yourselves for anything but
in everything, don’t panic, just let your requests be made known to God
& trust in (have faith in) Him & the peace of God which surpasses
all understanding, will guard your hearts & minds through Jesus the
Anointed One & His anointing [Philippians 4:6-7] being willing &
obedient to follow Him everyday as you walk in the Spirit from victory to
victory! Amen.
