Put off Put on - Pastor Stuart Price

In reading Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae, I read in Chapter 3

about this instruction to PUT OFF and PUT ON.

We have been Born Again to a new way of living and called to a higher

    standard of truth and righteousness.

So let’s look at some things to ‘put off’

Verse 2-4 Set your mind on things above, not things on the earth for you

died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our

life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Jesus is coming again, for a church without spot or blemish, so He wants us

to walk in the freedom from sin that He dealt with on the cross.

Verse 5 Therefore put to death, fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil

    desire and covetousness.

Verse 7 said in which you also once walked when you lived in them. Put off,

anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language.

Verse 8-9 Put off the old man with his deeds.

Quite a list of things to ‘Put Off’

    Now to ‘PUT ON’

Verse 10 ‘Put on’ the new man…

Verse 12 ‘Put on’ tender mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness

    and long suffering.

Verse 14 But above all these things Put On ‘Love’ which is the bond of

perfection. Then Paul says Let the peace of God rule. Let the Word of

    Christ dwell in you richly.

Before I became a Christian, I always thought ‘I have to do this, I have to

do that, I have to pray and go to church, read the word etc. But I

discovered I don’t have to ‘I want to”, that is the difference, I want to

pray, read the word, go to church and I want to Put Off the old man and his

evil ways. I want to Put On Christ and His love.

Ask yourself as you read this, or listen to the message online!

What do I need to ‘Put Off?’ What do I need to ‘Put On?’ The Holy Spirit

will guide and direct you and you will walk in a greater place of peace and

freedom from sin that will take all your joy.

Have a great week, and please read and study the Book of Colossians.
