God is a God of abundance, a God of blessing and a God of favour.
John 10:10 “I have come to give you life and that life more abundantly” -
or “to the full”. Gods love is unconditional but His promises are
conditional Herein is the key to receiving all God has for us. Jesus said
“….according to your faith – be it unto you.” In Luke 5:1-7 is a great
story of where He proved His abundance is available to all who would trust
Him.
There are 3 scenarios in this passage of scripture.
1. On the shore. Luke 4:42 says they tried to keep Jesus from “leaving
them” and in chapter 5:1 they “pressed about Him to hear the Word of God”.
it‘s easier just to ‘stand by the lake and hear the Word’ but not do
anything about it that would change our lives. It is applied truth that
transforms not just knowledge.
2. In the boat Luke 5:3 “put out a little from the land”. How often do we
have Jesus ‘in our boat’, but hang onto the ‘shoreline’, just in case it
doesn’t work ! The ‘shoreline’ held the boat in shallow water. When we hold
onto our insecurities our faith will become shallow and we limit Gods’
blessings in our lives. Learn to let go and let God ! Cast ALL your care
upon Him. Do you trust the shoreline or trust Gods’ Word?
3. Launch out into the deep Luke 5:4-7 Simon said to Jesus we have “toiled
all night and caught nothing. NEVERTHELESS ! i.e. regardless of the
situation. We can look at the disappointments and be discouraged or can
believe Gods’ Word and receive a miracle. “Nevertheless at YOUR WORD!
V4 - 5, Jesus said “let down the nets” (plural). Simon said “net”
(singular). Don’t limit God ! It is easier to settle for less and be
satisfied than to believe Gods’ Word for abundance and be blessed.
V6 – 7, When they had done this – they caught a great number of fish –
filled both boats, which began to sink. Build an expectation of faith daily
by reading Gods’ Word and praying His promises.
In John 21:1-14 we read of Jesus last recorded miracle prior to His
ascension.
V3 Peter said “I am going fishing”, he had given up. He had become
discouraged. Why? He had caught nothing. It is easier to go back to what
God sets us free from than to push through and believe for a miracle when
we become discouraged. Discouragement is the enemy of faith. “But when
morning had come”, Jesus said “cast your net on the right side”. A night of
failure became a morning of faith. A new day has dawned for us to let go of
the night and to believe God again, that what ‘He has promised, He is able
to perform’.
V11 The net was full of large fish – 153 in number and their net did not
break! Why 153 fish? It is recorded in scripture that Jesus performed 153
miracles while on earth. AMAZING ! It is time to ‘launch out into the deep’
of a great expectation, believe God again for the miraculous, and see our
nets FULL of HIS ABUNDANCE.
“Never doubt Gods’ mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He
will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most
unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination ! He will outdo
them all, for His miraculous power constantly energizes you.”
