In Psalm 8 David is pondering the magnificence of God with the
insignificance of man.
V3. “When I consider the heavens, the work of Your fingers…….”
V4. “What is man that You are mindful of him?”
The sun is the nearest star to earth – 150 million kilometres away. 1.3
million earths can fit inside the sun. It takes 11,770 earth-sized planets
side by side to reach the sun. The average distance between the stars in
the Milky Way is 47.5 trillion km. AMAZING! Gods’ Glory revealed in the
heavens.
In 2 Peter 3:10-13 the Word declares that the heavens and earth will pass
away - “Nevertheless We! according to His promise – look for new heavens,
new earth – in which righteousness dwells”
Everything that God has created in the universe will ultimately become
insignificant compared to man's redemption. In Hebrews 2:1 “Therefore we
must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard lest we drift
away.” Drifting is slowly moving away from the things of God without
realizing it! Hope is the anchor to the soul. This will stop us from
drifting during the storms of life.
V3. “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” - Neglect is
the cause of drifting.
Rev 21:1-4, 22-27 – Reveals Gods heart for humanity. V3 - “God Himself will
be with them and be their God.” God loves and values us more than the
vastness of His creation. What value do you put on your salvation and the
responsibility to walk daily with the living God? This is our ultimate
destiny.
Have a Blessed week
