If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above,
where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things
above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2
Paul is teaching about eternal things and gives some good instruction about
how to conduct our lives on earth. He says ‘Seek the things above.’ ‘Set
your mind on things above.’ Then in Colossians 1:5 ‘Because of the hope,
which is laid up for you in heaven. Our time on earth is temporary, and
we’re all headed to Eternity. ‘Our Eternal perspective affects our earthly
priorities.’
In Matthew 19:16-30 Jesus counsels the rich young ruler. He came to Jesus
and asked what he should do to have eternal life? Jesus said to him ‘keep
the commandments.’ Please read He said ‘I have kept all of them from my
youth.’ Jesus said to him ‘Go sell what you have and give to the poor, and
you will have treasure in heaven, and come follow me.’ This young man was
very rich, and he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. No
amount of possessions gives us a better or worse position in the afterlife.
We can choose to focus our lives on temporary wealth, but God offers us a
treasure that lasts forever. A relationship with Him that begins here and
continues for eternity in Heaven.
Nothing is worth more than knowing Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. God gives
us all things to enjoy and wants to bless His kids, but he cares more about
the condition of our hearts than the condition of our wallets.
Have an awesome week ahead
