We are so blessed to have Gods Word…truly it is a lamp unto our feet and a
light unto our path, and to be cherished as a yardstick to measure our life
to.
Jesus came to bring life, and life like God has it, that’s what ‘more
abundantly’ means Jn 10:10b and we received power when the Holy Spirit came
upon us Act 1:8. So we now have a spirit of power, love and a sound mind
Tim 1:8. But there is a system to operating in this realm and while our
spirit has been renewed, our soul and body need to be brought into line
with Gods way of operating….that's why Jesus said to “seek first Gods way
of operating” Matt 6:33 and ‘Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get
wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.” Prov4:7
Gods Word is wisdom and we must renew the control centre of our life which
is where the driver’s seat for life exists Rom 12:2. Although Jesus has
given us all victory, there are areas of our soul that need some serious
overhauling or renewing to get out the bad thinking that we have remaining
in our life.
Like weeding a garden. Weed by weed, removal is needed. Evidence of this
thinking shows up in negative reactions to situations and other actions
that are not the abundant life that Jesus has provided.
This is where we must personally go to battle to change our soul realm.
God says in Prov 4:23 Passion translation; “So above all, guard the
affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention
to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring
of life.”
The Hebrew word levav is the most common word for “heart.” It includes our
thoughts, our will, our discernment, and our affections – in other words,
this is our soul, part of us – the mind, will and emotions. The driving
seat for decisions we make in our life.
The enemy will want to invade us on any angle possible and we must be aware
of his tricks Eph 6:10-13 and lies. It’s up to us to guard the area of our
soul against invasions and go to war against ‘strongholds’ in our thinking
that will steer our life down roads that we don’t want.
Our thoughts will determine what we say, and what we say will determine the
road we travel and results we will have in life……The good news is that we
can uproot old ways of thinking that hinder our lives by Gods might
weapons. ”For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God
for pulling down strongholds, ” 2Cor10:4
A ‘stronghold’ is a structure that is built in our minds of thoughts
regarding a certain thing and this structure is so convincing to our mind
that it becomes our reality….even if it is actually a lie, we will believe
it as true and it will shape our words and what keeps coming around in our
life. The Word of God reveals areas where our thinking doesn’t line up with
what God says about us. We must fight against it and be diligent to ‘guard
our hearts’.
The human brain doesn’t know the difference between what we see in our
imagination’s eye of the mind and the images our physical eyes see. The
brain is like a computer that is programmed by us through our experiences
in life. The brain has 2 general parts;
1. The conscience part (10%)
2. The sub-conscious part (90%).
As soldiers in Gods army, Paul encourages Timothy to keep up the good fight
of faith. When we are aware of thoughts, this is our conscious mind that we
are using, and if we allow thoughts to pass through this part unhindered,
those thoughts enter the sub-conscious mind and will form part of our
programming in our brain.
We must be the ones to guard our mind by “bringing every thought into
captivity” 2 Cor10:5 Its like this…if we were the security guard at an
18yrs event, we would guard the doorway, to control who enters there, not
roam around the venue looking for potential underage people. Likewise, we
must guard the way into our brain…the door is the conscious mind (small 10%
part of the brain) and action can only be taken when it appears there…do we
want it to enter or not? It’s up to you.
Fact: your mind will always stop to listen to your mouth….if you don’t want
to allow entry, open your mouth and say aloud “no! I reject that thought.
You are not coming in. Get out!” “My God says that I am more than a
conqueror and have a spirit of power, love and a sound mind”; or whatever
is appropriate for the situational thoughts. Its time to be more aware of
our thoughts and vigilant to be on guard. Selah.
