Last week my father, Pastor Stuart Price, ministered from Mark 5:25-35 about the woman with the issue of blood. As Jesus walked out His life on the way to the cross, there were so many that He touched along the way. You see for all those that He touched, He was more than enough and nothing was impossible for Jesus. Mark 5 is filled with such cases.
Jesus touched many people but this lady reached out to Jesus first and got her hearts desire. Jesus wants you to reach out to Him and this world today and everyday.
We read in this certain woman suffered so much in the following ways:
Physically - v.26 – with the constant loss of blood
Socially – she was forbidden to be married or to be around other people – outcast
Emotionally - she lived her life moving from one rejection to another – lonely, isolated and desperate. So many in today’s world live like this. Aren’t we so glad that one day Jesus touched us in whatever state we were in and now we can have hope.
Religiously – under Levitical law found in Lev. 15:19-25; she could not mix with other people and certainly not allowed to go the woman’s court of the temple.
Financially – v.26 she had spent all and yet was getting worst.
What a picture that is painted here of a life in misery. This woman was living under a death sentence. Her life was draining away and she had just about given up.
The story paints a clear picture of everyone today who doesn’t know Jesus. They also have a blood issue called a nature of sin. The world is lost in condemned blood and heading for an eternity in hell, unless they hear and are born again. Note v. 27 “When she heard about Jesus,”. In Luke 6:17-19 we read about how Jesus healed the entire multitude – tens of thousands of people. She would have heard testimony from others about this Jesus and His love and healing power. Today it is the work of the church to tell the lost about this same Jesus and His gospel.
Do you know Mark 16:17-18 “and these signs shall follow those who believe…” This is our role for right now as ministers of reconciliation to the lost. When we get born again, we receive a blood transfusion to new life! Hallelujah! Such a great gospel we carry for those that are lost.
Determination to be well held this woman on the path that caused her to push through all the barriers to touch Jesus. Fear would have gripped her, but she pushed on in faith. Don’t let fears of situations or man stop you; fear God only. V.28 “she said” – first she heard, then she thought and finally she said. Your words are so powerful! She released her faith and declared/proclaimed the result before it happened.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Why will Christians follow their doctor’s instructions to the letter, but what about God’s words to us?Q: Are you happy with where you are at today?
The Lord would encourage us not to settle into unbelief if our answer is taking longer than we had hoped for. You have great and awesome power in you that Jesus commanded us to release into this world, for the glory of the Father and Jesus.
That woman could touch Jesus physically, but we today can touch Jesus spiritually, everyday through our worship.
Determine for yourself today to be the person that God is seeking – a worshiper in spirit and truth.
And through our close connection with Him you will have the faith to walk in Jesus’ ministry to reach out your hand to the lost and desperate ones around you. It is your destiny. Jesus comes quickly! Renew your focus today and see His goodness in YOUR life. The Holy Spirit is your ever present helper for today. Glory to God!!
