Over the last few weeks the Lord has been speaking to us about the power of praise that comes from the hope that we have in Jesus and in our new life in Him. We know that this life we live is not done alone but that God promises to never leave us nor forsake us. He is a faithful God and true to His promises – He never changes.
Faithfulness is an adjective and defined as “being true to one’s word or promise; true and unchanging or thorough in the performance of a duty”. The faithfulness of God is event in His fulfilled promises of which Jesus is the greatest evidence of that.
Deut. 7:9 says “know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”
Lam. 3:22-23 says “His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your Faithfulness.”
Jm. 1:17 says about God “whom there is no variation or shadow of turning”
Num. 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He not spoken, and will He not make it good?”
God says in Jer. 1:12 “for I am ready to perform My word.” David wrote many Psalms about the faithfulness of God: see Psalm 92, 105 and 111 are just a few.
Our God is so faithful and can be totally trusted today and forever.
1 Cor.1:9 “God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord”.
“He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it” 1 Thess.5:24.
Jesus was faithful to complete the journey to the cross (Heb 3:2) and is our faithful High Priest now and the Holy Spirit is faithful to complete the work that He begun in us according to Phil 1:6.
Our faithful God has done great things for us in times past, hasn’t He? Has He ever healed you, or provided for you or gotten you out of a tight place before? Then cast your mind back and remember His goodness to you before.
To remember is “to re-live or live again or experience again”. If He has done it before He can do it again. He is no respecter of man, if He has done it for someone else, He can do it for you!
Remember the past times that God got you through. Use that to encourage yourself and declare Gods goodness of what He has done, it will bring hope and take you into high praises of a worthy Father. Whatever you remember is what you will go towards. What are you remembering?? There are certain things that we should not remember because they bring condemnation, but things that are, good, pure, praise worthy… remember those things (Phil 4:8)
The children of Israel soon forgot the mighty goodness of God and it kept them from The Promise Land. We are warned about unbelief in Heb 3:12 – “an evil heart of unbelief”. The very centre verse of the Bible Ps 118:8 says “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” Coincidence….I think not!
Read again Matt 6:25-34 “therefore I (Jesus) say to you, do not worry about your life…do not worry about tomorrow..” You can trust God with your tomorrow’s.
Learn by heart 1 John 5:14-15. Remember His past victories in your life and smile and sing ‘Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord unto me’.
Continue to build yourself in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit (Jude 20) for the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead, lives in you and is your faithful God and Helper; to the end. Amen
