To Know the Father
“The God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Glory,
may give to you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.”
Ephesians 1:17
Paul’s prayer.
The prayer that Paul prayed for the Ephesians thousands of years ago changed their lives and is still changing lives today. He prayed for the Spirit of wisdom and revelation of the knowledge of God the Father.
In John 17:3 Jesus prays to the Father!
“And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God,
and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”.
The Christian life could be described as getting to know God better every day. A friendship which does not grow closer with the years tends to vanish.
- To know God personally is Salvation John 17:1-3
- To know Him increasingly is Sanctification Phil 3:10
- To know Him perfectly is Glorification 1Cor 13:9-12
Paul wanted them to know God more intimately as their Father, to become a closer friend with Him.
Spirit of Revelation – is the unveiling of a subject.
In this case God Himself and to understand Gods mysteries,
not so much about what the Preacher thinks, but in what God says.
Eph 1:17b “In the knowledge of Him”! The Bible does not seek to prove the existence of God, it simply affirms His existence by declaring “In the Beginning God”. God has revealed Himself through the physical universe (Ps 19:1, Rom 1:19-20).
In John 14:9 Jesus stated “He that has seen me, has seen the Father.”
So every day Pray “Open the eyes of my understanding that I may grow closer to you Father. That I may understand your ways and, every day I may bring joy to You”.
Love you all heaps.
Ps Stuart and Colleen
