Forgiveness and Healing

The bible is full of great miracles of healings and people having powerful encounters with the living God.

Mark 2:1-12 contains such a story. A story about a day when Jesus was preaching in Capernaum a large crowd had gathered in the house he was staying in, it was just like the other days Jesus had preached, except for when four men brought their friend, a  paralytic man to Jesus for healing. Imagine the setting, the house was full, it was noisy and hot, the crowd extended out onto the street and around the house. The four men carried their friend on a stretcher, and when they found they could not get into the house they climbed up onto the roof, dug a hole and lowered the man down to Jesus. And Jesus, after seeing their faith said to the man, your sins are forgiven, Jesus then told him to take up his "cot and go to your house", the man got up and walked out.

·       Forgiveness gives us the power to rise and walk.

·       Forgiveness is the greatest miracle that Jesus performed. It meets the greatest need. It cost the greatest price and it brings the greatest blessings and the most lasting.

Imagine the tension

1.     The scribes present were tense because Jesus challenged them

2.     The paralyzed man was tense, thinking "can Jesus Heal me"

3.     The crowd was tense because they sensed the tension

4.     The owner was tense, thinking how much it will cost to repair the roof

5.     The four friends were tense, getting tired and thinking he needs healing

6.     Only Jesus had perfect peace. He said "Arise"

God sent hope where there was no hope. He sent Jesus. There are 400 years between Malachi to Matthew, and in Matthew 4:16 we are told that "the people who sat in darkness saw a great light". Jesus is that light.

People are living in darkness and despair today but, we are told in Matthew 9:36 "when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd".

Jesus is the same today as He was back then, He has the same compassion for you today as he did for the multitude.
